And with that, I want to share to you the top 3 struggles I encountered as an accountancy college freshmen—and how I managed to cope with them.

1. Multitasking: Balancing academics and responsibilities

As an Accountancy student, multitasking becomes a survival skill. Managing school and personal life is like doing a trial balance. Minsan hindi mo na alam kung anong uunahin mo — reading your books, review for quizzes, pending activities, and also house chores.

Time management is the key! I started on creating “TO DO LIST” so I can track my activities. I also give time for my personal needs and house chores. Lastly, asking for help, because sometimes it's okay to admit to ourselves that we can't do everything all at once and it will not make us weak.

2. Adapting to new environment

Unfamiliar surroundings and lifestyle can be socially and emotionally challenging. As a freshman, it's hard to adjust and  make new friends, especially when you're away from your town. You will experience being shy to start a conversation with your classmates. Sometimes, you'll feel the pressure and fear of answering on recitation because you feel someone will judge you. Accountancy often requires independent learning, problem solving, and critical thinking, which may be new for you.

But despite these challenges, I survived it. I find strength in these experiences. It taught me to step out of my comfort zone, which helps me to grow as a student. Also, some group projects help me learn how to socialize and get to know them better. As time passes by, the person who once felt lost will be wiser, stronger, and ready to take on more challenges, the unfamiliar surroundings and lifestyle will begin to feel like home. It wasn’t easy for me either, but I did it. So can you.

3. Expectations and pressure from people

In accountancy, it's not new to hear comments from people such as “‘di ba kapag accountancy matalino ka”, “magaling ‘to sa math”, “plus minus lang naman ‘yan”. At first, these words might seem harmless, but over time, they can feel overwhelming. Because of the expectation from people, you will be ashamed of making mistakes. This can lead to self-doubt, burnout, and the feeling that you're not good enough, as you push yourself beyond your limits.  You start questioning your ability — “matalino ba talaga ako?” o kaya “baka hindi talaga para sa akin ang program na ito”.

After all these, I learn to choose comments that I should accept and the things that will help to improve myself. Don’t let these comments and expectations define your worth. Also, always remember your “why”, whether you want to succeed or help your family because it will help you stay grounded when things get tough.

These struggles I shared are just a few pieces of a bigger puzzle that helped shape who I am today as an Accountancy student. You may stumble, but you will rise stronger every time. Keep going, future CPA—you’re on the right track.

Tips para sa mga BSA Freshies:

• Learn to pause. Pwedeng mapagod at magpahinga pero hindi susuko. Rest is not a sign of weakness, but a step to regain your strength.

• Ask for help when needed. Hindi mo kailangang kayanin lahat mag-isa. Reaching out shows courage, not failure.

• Always find solutions to every hard situation. Bawat problema ay may kasamang sagot. Don’t dwell on what went wrong—focus on what you can do next.

Final Note:

Always remember that every struggle is part of the journey and has a purpose. It’s like the universe’s way of saying, "Binigay ko sa’yo kasi kaya mo at kakayanin mo".

From confusion to confidence — one freshie moment at a time.
